February evokes feeling of love, friendship, and timeless beauty. Valentine’s Day is a great day for sexy beautiful hair, but everyone can achieve sexy, beautiful hair all year round. Here are a few of our current favorites and how to achieve them.
Start with a good foundation. It is a little known fact that the most damage caused to hair takes place at home. The #1 cause of loss of elasticity (hair stretching and breaking!) is combing the hair wet without a leave in product. #2 is heat, especially flat irons, used without heat protection, which deplete the hair of moisture and create porosity damage. These are a few of the best products out there to protect your hair from the beginning of your styling process.
Kerastase Nectar Thermique - This heat-activated leave-in conditioner is great for medium to thick hair. Applied to towel dried hair, this product replenishes moisture and gives you that silky soft hair that begs to be touched.
Kerastase Cement Thermique - This lightweight heat-activated leave-in conditioner works best on medium to fine hair. It's reconstructive qualities are perfect for weakened hair and distressed blondes, giving strength and moisture without weighing hair down.
Shu Uemora Essence Absolute - Known as "liquid gold,” this is truly your all-in one product. Used on toweled dry hair, this lightweight serum delivers heat protection, moisture and shine. On curly hair, it creates shine and definition without weight. For straightening hair, it is strong enough to tame the most unruly curls. Lastly, use on dry hair for shine, moisture and texture. This product really does it all!
Now that you have a great foundation, the possibilities are endless. Now is a great time to play with texture. Been wearing your hair straight? Go curly. Think all updo's need to be stiff? Try the undone look. Here are a few of our favorite styles that are easy and beautiful.
On protected dry hair, use a 1" curling iron to curl your entire head in 1" sections all in one direction. Use a boar bristle brush to gently comb hair out, this creates that 1920"s pin curl look. Wear it down or gather hair at the nape of your neck and use bobby pins to pin the hair under to create a bob look.
On dry, blown-out hair, backcomb the entire crown and smooth over the top. Gather hair all to one side and braid. Let pieces that frame the face fall naturally - remember that your hair can move.
Not feeling confident about your styling skills? Come and see us for a styling lesson. Together we will create styles unique to you, and even better, show you how to achieve them at home.
This month of love, remember that we are all beautiful inside and out and there is no reason we shouldn't show that to the world!
